The Paediatric Virology Study Group (PVSG) was created in the spring of 2007, when a group of young specialty trainees in Paediatrics and Neonatology in the UK started studying viral infections in neonates and children as a bold new educational field of Paediatrics. The creation of the group was inspired by two twin premature neonates with CMV infection managed at the local Neonatal Unit of the Wirral University Teaching Hospital in the UK. Since its birth, the group has been dedicated to promoting international scientific exchange and cooperation between clinicians and basic researchers on Paediatric Virology and its aim has been to bring together Virology with Peadiatrics.

Among the most significant hallmarks in the legacy of the group are the workshops on Paediatric Virology lauched in 2015 and the foundation of the Institute of Paediatric Virology in 2019.
